About Laura
Laura has been a Registered Nurse since 2009 and became a Midwife in 2015. She has both a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in Midwifery. As a nurse she worked on a pediatric floor working mostly with infant and babies for 3 years and then worked on a post-partum unit (and some L &D and NICU) for the next three years.
Once she had finished her Midwifery degree, she started her own home birth practice in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA for 3 years before joining Lucina Midwives in 2019 and St. Albert Community Midwives in April of 2024. She views birth as a transformative event in a woman’s life.
The physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum period are different for each woman and family. She tailors her care to meet individual and family needs and believes informed decision making is an important component of care so that families can make the best decisions for themselves and their baby.
She is passionate about midwifery care and how diet, exercise, and herbs, supplements, and homeopathics can positively affect pregnancy and birth outcomes and prevent complications.
Before entering the medical field, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and then lived in both Spain and France for several years. She is fluent in French and Spanish. While she was learning languages abroad, she traveled a lot and has been to over 40 countries.
